Yanjing Huang
I am a first-generation college student and immigrant. When I was twelve, my parents decided to move to the United States seeking a better life and future for their children. The transition from a small village in China to the United States was not easy. I faced significant challenges in adapting to a new culture and language in this land I now call home. My first year in the United States was particularly difficult; I struggled in school and found it hard to interact with other students as I didn’t speak any English. As the oldest child in my family, I’ve worked hard to honor their sacrifices and be a role model for my younger siblings. I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to pursue higher education, especially since my parents never had the opportunity to attend high school. With strong determination, I gradually overcame these obstacles and developed into a capable and ambitious individual. After completing my undergraduate degree in Business Analytics, I chose to pursue a master in Information Systems Management at Carnegie Mellon University to deepen my expertise in Data Analytics. I aspire to become a well-rounded data scientist, leveraging my analytical skills and industry knowledge to solve complex problems that impact our daily lives. Beyond my professional goals, I take pride in my role as a leader within my family, serving as a role model for my siblings and helping my parents navigate life in this new country. I view higher education not only as a means to advance my career but also as a way to give back to my community. I aim to bridge technology and social impact, using my skills to create data-driven solutions for societal issues that we are currently facing.
