In her own words

Sydney Repasky

As a first generation student from a low income background, I came into law school with a narrow understanding of what attorneys do in their day to day work. As a second year student, I am more confident now than ever that I can use the skills that I have gained to have a meaningful impact in my field. My decision to go to law school was based on my desire to give back to the greater Pittsburgh community as a native of Southwestern Pennsylvania, as well as my desire to be in a position to help people in ways that would not be possible without an understanding of our ever complex legal system. My greatest interests in law school so far have come from my property law and environmental law classes and learning about things like guardianship, and areas such as environmental justice. The idea of being able to provide empathetic and diligent counseling to those in need makes me even more excited about being able to practice law in the future. I am particularly excited to have the ability to participate in pro bono matters for low income clients no matter what kind of law I practice, as my life experiences have allowed me to come from a place of understanding and empathy. Reflecting on this past summer working in an unpaid internship with a Judge in the Court of Common Pleas and my coursework so far in law school, I realize how much my aspirations have solidified.
