In her own words

McKenna Kanaby

My mom knew she couldn’t go to a four year school, after spending her teenage years working to support herself and her family. She worked hard in school and earned a career in sonography, climbing in ranks every year. She worked at least 2 jobs for over 25 years, while building a family and raising two kids. I watched as she put in tremendous effort at work to support me, and did even more for me at home. She gave me the opportunity she didn’t have, so I want my education to fulfill the same amount of work she did to get me here.

I’m looking to go to law school after receiving my undergraduate degree, to pursue environmental law. I grew up just outside the Adirondack park, and I spent many weekends there with friends and family. My town is agriculturally focused, and relies heavily on the environment. Due to this, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of the natural environment. Climate change and other recent events have put the entire world at risk, especially areas such as those like where I grew up. The environment was a constant for me while going through the changes of life, and in my work, I want to make sure future generations get the same chance to enjoy it as I did. I’m lucky to have been raised on mountains and fresh air, so I can appreciate why its so important to act while we have the chance. By going into environmental law, I’m looking to make the biggest impact in the time I have.
