In her own words
Samantha Gil Osorno
The reason I’m pursuing a higher education is to achieve my goals to make a name for myself and my family. I am studying to become a professional pilot. Not only is it my passion, but it will also help me to accomplish many goals in my life. I have always wanted to travel the world, so becoming a pilot will help me to do so. I also want to become a pilot because there are so few women in aviation. I want to make a change in the aviation community to inspire and empower more women to go into the field because it is a male-dominated field. I am also furthering my education for my family. I have always wanted a better life for myself and my family, so becoming a pilot will help me and my family. I want to put myself in a stable financial position for not only myself, but also for my family. My parents have worked hard all of their lives. I would love for them to retire, and I want to help them be able to afford a nice retirement home of their choice. My career would also allow me to fly my parents to visit their family back in Mexico. To be a part of change as a first-gen woman of color is very exciting. I hope to complete my education no matter the challenges ahead. I am willing to do whatever it takes to better myself and my family.
